Welcome to Wiener Stuff

Wiener Stuff is the place to stick all those Dachshund related items that have been sitting on your hard drive taking up space, whether it be just plain junk or your very finest collection. Actually, if it pertains to Dachshunds, to us it is not junk. As long as it's text (or a very small, legible gif or jpg file), we'll take it!

The Dachsionary is up!

Stories

The following is from the Badger Hound News, published by the Western Dachshund Club and Reprinted in the Teckel Teller, Northern California Dachshund Club:

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm chewing something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it is mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automaticaly becomes mine.

A Lost chapter from Genesis
Contributed by Angela Duck

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?" Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me everyday. Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me."

And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, "No problem! Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but perhaps too well."

And the Lord said, "No problem! I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam learned humility.

And God was pleased. And Adam was greatly improved. And Dog was happy. And the Cat didn't give a hoot one way or the other.

Frosty Paws

Author Unknown

In blender or food processor, mix 1 ripe banana, 2-3 oz. of plain yogurt (I use non-fat), and 2 ozs water. Process till smooth and pour into old frosty paws cups or something similar. Freeze and serve. This recipe fills about 3 FP cups.

Grape Treat Recipe
Update: The recipe that has been here for years was removed after Craig, a visitor to the Web site, sent the following regarding the newly discovered dangers of grapes. Thank you, Craig.

'There is a reference on the page to "Grape Treats". Author unknown, freeze 'em. Dogs love 'em. You should remove that information from your web page. There is a growing body of evidence to support that grapes cause significant renal problems for canines. See this ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) Bulletin.'

Another Frosty Paw Recipe

Author Unknown

I've been working on my homemade frosty paw recipe and here are a few updates. Yesterday I couldn't get plain yogurt (the store was completely out) so I got a flavor called 'Banilla' made by Stoneyfield Farm. Whirled this up in the blender with the banana, and they LOVED IT!!! I've also started to use less water.

So here's the latest recipe:

1 banana
4 ozs plain or Banilla yogurt
2 ozs water

I think future experiments will be with adding other kinds of fruits like peaches, raspberries etc. I'll keep you posted!

My Dog's Favorite Liver Treats

By Cheri (MINIDOXIES@aol.com)

Make up a batch of Jiffy cornbread according to package directions, add a pound of raw pureed liver (you can do it in either a food processor or your blender) pour in a greased, floured cake pan and bake. Mmmmmmm.
