about using a collar vs harness
Since we have out doxies, we have been using harnesses, most designed for doxies.
Since we've been watching Cesar Millar and see his use of the choke type collar used high on the neck, I envy that, but still don't think it's possible NOT to hurt a dachshund with that type of collar.
Does anyone use the choke type? My dogs pull like crazy, usually. I can make them walk better than hubby or daughter. They just sort of let the dog meander all over or drag them down the street. I get so annoyed that I won't walk with the family (plus it's single digits in NJ right now!).
I can't see me on roller blades or a bike but I'd like to take the three doxies out once in a while, all together.
That leaves the Golden out, but he would REALLY drag me down the block!

Re: about using a collar vs harness
I never had trouble with Makkara and Moose mainly because they have never been outside with out a leash. To answer your question about the choke collar...I did use one for both dogs but only for walks and only until they learned....it was funny neither of them did much pulling once I put the collar on.....I would never yank hard when correcting.

Re: about using a collar vs harness
KC has a harness from the local farm/ranch store and i add a choke to that adjusted with a clip so it only comes into play if he pulls.
He has two modes of walking ... Mom paying attention, where he sets nicely at my heel ... and Mom not paying attention where he more closely resembles an otter bounding down the street. The big dogs all have perfect leash manners at all times and all have the same choke chain arrangement.
Hugz!!

Re: about using a collar vs harness
I use show leads that are simular to a choker collar. once the dog gets used to not pulling a go to a regular collar, but every once in a while they need a reminder
