Directions For Taking Dog's Temperature
To take your dog's temperature: Using a baby rectal thermometer that has been lubricated with a small amount of petroleum jelly ( make sure that it starts off reading 96 degrees) and carefully inset the bulb end of the thermometer approximately one inch into the anus with a twisting motion, lifting the tail up and making sure that the dog remains in a standing position, only. Leave in for about two - three minutes. The normal temperature should read 100 to 102.5 degrees.
Should the dog sit and thus break thermometer, give him one teaspoon (to expedite a bowel movement) of mineral oil and consult with veterinarian, immediately. Do not attempt to remove the thermometer yourself.
