<54> There are many reasons why dogs vomit, and for the most part, are effected by common occurances, such as overeating, especially right after heavy exercise. Also, eating grass or other difficult to digest materials will cause vomiting. Try a bland diet of hamburg and rice for a day and give a little Pepto Bismol. If your dog continues to vomit frequently for more than 24 hours, seems lethargic, or has a fever ( see below), consult your veterinarian.
To take your dog's temperature: Using a baby rectal thermometer that has been lubricated with a small amount of petroleum jelly, making sure that it starts off reading 96 degrees, carefully inset the bulb end of the thermometer into the anus, lifting the tail up while dog is in a standing position. Leave in for about two - three minutes. The normal temperature should read 100 to 102.5 degrees.
